Upcoming Meetings and Events:

Kids in the Creek
Sep 25, 2019

The 26th annual Kids in the Creek field days will be held on Sept 25-27 at the Entiat National Fish Hatchery from 9am-2pm.

The quality of this educational program is dependent on the help of natural resource professionals and knowledgeable volunteers. This awesome hands-on, and sometimes feet-wet, educational program for high school students is an inspiring and fun program to be part of, and we are grateful to all you experienced resource professionals. We have a need for returning and new resource professionals and volunteers to assist at the various stations over the course of the 3 days at this year's event.

Please let us know if you can help at one of the stations this year and what days you are available. Stations that we likely need assistance at include: Macroinvertebrate Mayhem, Habitat Sense, Flow, and Riparian Ramble.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Kids in the Creek program, please visit the new standalone Kids in the Creek website: www.kidsinthecreek.com

Kids in the Creek was introduced in 1992 and designed to deliver a comprehensive curriculum on stream ecology using a wide variety of activity-based units. It also incorporates a field trip to explore actual field methods for assessing aquatic and riparian habitat, water quantity, water quality and indicator insects, as well as an introduction to land use planning considerations. Students put on waders, collect samples, analyze data and work with natural resource professionals to evaluate conditions in the stream. They discuss the connections between watershed function, local conditions, and beneficial uses of the water and land for people, fish and wildlife. We strongly believe that helping students to see these links will pave the way for their active participation in community decisions for wise use of natural resources in the future.

We would appreciate you sharing this information with any of your associates who may be interested. Thank you for your support and contribution to this program. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
