Cascadia Conservation District
Serving Chelan County

Working Collaboratively
to Reduce Risk

Since 2003, the Cascadia Conservation District has been working with area residents, local fire districts, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the United States Forest Service to develop Community Wildfire Protection Plans, or CWPPs, for Chelan County communities along the wildland-urban interface.

CWPPs help at-risk communities address such issues as wildfire response, hazard mitigation, community preparedness, and structure protection. Completed CWPPs can be used by communities to acquire grant funding for wildfire prevention and protection projects. They can also be used to help direct management actions on adjoining public lands.

The Cascadia Conservation District has been able to assist in the development of CWPPs for the Lake Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Manson, Monitor to Peshastin, Peshastin Creek Drainage, Ponderosa, South Shore Lake Chelan, Squilchuck Valley, Stehekin and Union Valley communities. An independent contractor completed a CWPP for the Entiat River drainage.  All of the individual CWPPs helped to provide a foundation for the Chelan County Fire Plan that was compled in the fall of 2008.
